Béatrice BERN
Clarinetist

“This musician possesses an intelligence of sound, a power of empathy and penetration into the very heart of the work…”
Roland Duclos, music critic
Béatrice Berne is a French composer and clarinetist, specializing in contemporary creation and multidisciplinary musical forms.
His work lies at the crossroads of chamber music, opera, musical theatre and traditional music, through a style of writing that questions the transformation of sound and the cultural connections between past and present.
As the founder of the Kaïros Ensemble, she develops a creative space where voice, electroacoustic instruments, musical dramaturgy and innovative playing methods meet.
She explores the expressive depth of early clarinets, of which she
reveals the organological and acoustic dimensions, and the entire Baroque and Classical repertoire with appropriate tuning.
His catalogue includes, in particular, the opera Demeter (currently being broadcast), the show Lovecraft, My Love (musical theatre) as well as compositions for chamber music, hybrid ensembles, film scores and interdisciplinary projects.
Committed to a process of living creation, she collaborates with performers, researchers, directors, video artists and visual artists to invent artistic forms that link myth, sound body and narration.
As a performer, Béatrice Berne performs in concert solo, duo, trio and with chamber ensembles, with a repertoire spanning eras: contemporary music, original creations, Balkan repertoires, oral tradition, improvisation and reinterpretations for historical clarinets.
A teacher and researcher , she teaches at the Clermont-Ferrand Regional Conservatory and conducts research on the history of clarinets, early expressive practices, and the reinvention of instruments in contemporary music. Her artistic approach aims to foster new ways of listening to, playing, and transmitting wind instruments through experimentation, creation, and memory.
This site presents its works, concerts, recordings, stage projects, educational resources and news related to the Kairos Ensemble and contemporary musical creation.
